Heavy Vehicle Safety

This course is for Heavy Vehicle operators who wish to up-skill in the area of safety. This course is a mix of online and classroom based training.

Our Instructors train and then seamlessly assess (on route) each participant to a required standard of compliance with a client’s company driving and motor vehicle policies to identify competency and capability. This program is most suitable for corporate and professional drivers who are required to operate a Heavy Vehicle throughout metro and regional Australia for work purposes.

Keeping you safe on the roads is our priority. Our heavy vehicle driver training covers legal regulations, learning to safely operate in all weather conditions, safe vehicle operations, and maneuvering, and all of the skills necessary to work safely in the transport industry. Our goal  is to prepare any newbie heavy vehicle driver to get out on the road with the confidence they need in order to drive on unknown roads.

Requirements & Details:

  • Participants must be a minimum of 17 years of age to sit the assessment, and be proficient in English
  • Photo ID, and wear appropriate clothing and closed in shoes
  • A short literacy and numeracy test will be required
  • Assessment type: Theory and Practical
  • Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment and a plastic industry wallet card issued by QTLT RTO #40931

Operators of heavy vehicles have a safety duty under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 to ensure the provision and maintenance of safe plant. Accordingly persons conducting a business or undertaking should ensure the following:

  • That hydraulic hoses and electrical leads are separated and supported/ protected to prevent any abrasion;
  • That prior to service and maintenance the underside of heavy vehicles are cleaned so that a more comprehensive inspection of hydraulic hoses can be undertaken;
  • That all heavy vehicles be fitted with dry powder fire extinguishers attached by a quick release bracket; and
  • That all heavy vehicles be fitted with first aid kits.
